January 25 Mustard cultivation has decreased this year compared to last year in Joypurhat. The northern district of Joypurhat is experiencing a cold wind and dense fog, increasing the intensity of winter. The mustard yield in Joypurhat is increasing day by day. Beekeepers are taking advantage of this opportunity to collect honey from mustard flowers. Yellow mustard flowers are blooming in the fields. If the weather is favorable this time, farmers are hoping for a bumper harvest and a lot of profit. The agriculture department said that mustard cultivation has decreased due to increased potato cultivation and is providing all-round support to the farmers.

The beautiful beauty of nature, yellow mustard flowers, are adorning the horizon of the villages of Joypurhat. However, mustard cultivation has decreased in five upazilas in the district this season compared to last season. Since the price of potatoes is high during the mustard planting season, many have abandoned mustard cultivation and cultivated potatoes this time. Therefore, mustard cultivation has decreased slightly this time. Mustard has been cultivated on 14,165 hectares of land in the district this season. This is about 4,000 hectares less than last year. In addition, the cost of production has also increased for farmers due to the high price of fertilizers and pesticides. They are hoping to sell it for 20,000 taka per bigha of land by spending 7,000 taka.
On the one hand, honey farmers are going through a busy time, a three-day training workshop was held for honey farmers at the initiative of BSCIC. After the training, certificates were handed over to them.

M.G.S., Mukta Mandal, a beekeeper resident of Sadar Upazila of Dinajpur district, told Daily Present Time, Purana Pool of Sadar Upazila of Joypurhat, ‘I have installed about 400 boxes made of steel and wood for honey collection. I get 6-7 kg of honey from each box. For the last 20 days, I have collected 20-30 maunds of honey from all the boxes. I have sold each kg of honey at the rate of 400 taka per kg.’ 02. 02 honey farmers.

Imran Hossain of Sadar Upazila of Gaibandha district said, when I came to visit, I saw the honey of mustard flowers in Purana Pul of Joypurhat Sadar Upazila, which is beneficial for health, and I saw honey being preserved in front of my eyes. Such pure honey is not usually available and is not adulterated, so I bought it.

Abdus Salam, a bela amla of Joypurhat Sadar Upazila, said, “This time I cultivated mustard on six bighas of land. It cost about 7 thousand taka. Mustard cultivation is less troublesome than other crops. Besides, there is no need to irrigate. First, the land is plowed and mustard seeds are sown, and then a good yield is obtained by applying fertilizer once.” This time, he expects mustard production of 20-25 thousand taka per bigha.

Liton Chandra Ghosh, Deputy Manager, BSCIC District Office, Joypurhat, told Daily Pageant Time that after the three-day training in honey production, certificates and honey boxes were distributed, and unemployed youth were helped to set up farms.
