MoU signing ceremony held for environmental improvement of rice mills and achieving ISO certification in Dinajpur

A MoU signing ceremony was held under the Pragati Project to improve the environmental quality of 7 selected rice mills in Dinajpur and achieve ISO 14001: 2015 EMS certification.

On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at 10 am, a MoU signing ceremony was held between 7 selected rice mills and SGS Bangladesh Limited at the hall room of Hotel Grand Nur. Dinajpur Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) and Acting Administrator of Dinajpur Municipality Nur-e Alam spoke as the chief guest.

The special guests at the event were Mosaddek Hossain, President of Dinajpur Rice Mill Owners Group, Prabhati Rani, Inspector of Dinajpur Environment Department, and Mr. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin Sarkar, Professor of Dinajpur Haji Mohammad Danesh University of Science and Technology.

In addition, Yasmin Akhter, Business Manager of SGS Bangladesh Limited, and Syed Abu Sufian, Senior Manager of the Growth Project were present. Under the leadership of Ibrahim Saeed Khan, Coordinator of the Growth Project, and SKM Sadiqul Islam, Technical Expert, the heads of various related organizations of Dinajpur and senior officials of the partner organizations were present and shared their valuable opinions. On behalf of SGS Bangladesh Limited, Yasmin Akhter, Business Manager, and the owners of the 7 selected rice mills signed the Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of their respective organizations.

According to the MoU, the partner institutions will work together to obtain ISO 14001:2015 certification for the rice mills concerned through joint cooperation in environmental quality improvement, inspection, testing, verification, conducting O&M reports and audit activities. Through research, innovation and sustainable development of the rice industry, the efficiency and capacity will be increased and the Environmental Management System will be ensured for sustainable environmental development. The 7 rice mills participating in the MoU are Hridoy Auto Rice Mill, Asia Auto Rice Mill, Kanchan Auto Rice Mill, Soha Auto Rice Mill Unit-1, Bengal Auto Rice Mill, Bismillah Agro Food, and M/s Umeda Agro Limited. A large number of media personnel were also present at the event.
