A woman named Maimanua Begum Sukhi tried to commit suicide by jumping into the river Meghna with her one-and-a-half-year-old son in her arms after her husband broke the mobile phone in Bhola’s Charfashion. Luckily the mother survived but her one and a half year old son Ibrahim lost her life.
The woman jumped into Meghna river in Prashanthi Park area near Betua launch ghat on Sunday afternoon. Later, two local youths found the mother and son floating in the river and brought them to Charfashan Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared the child dead. The deceased child, Ibrahim, is the son of Abdur Rahim of Ward No. 5, Jinnagarh. That woman Charfassion Municipality Sharifpara area. Yasin’s daughter.
Eyewitness Shakil said, in the afternoon, the woman was sitting on the bank of Meghna River in Betua Prashanthi Park with her baby son in her lap. After a while, the woman found her baby son in her arms, splashing with the waves of the Meghna. Immediately he rescued the mother and son with the help of local businessmen and brought them to Charfashion Hospital. The child died on the way.
Tachnoor, the mother of the housewife, said that 4 years ago, her daughter got married to Abdur Rahim, a Lokman member of Jinnagarh Union. Soon after the birth of the first child in the girl’s house, the son-in-law Rahim and his family members started harassing the girl in various ways. My daughter Maimuna told me these things several times.
On Sunday afternoon, my daughter’s son-in-law asked me over the phone whether Maimuna was coming to my house. I was very upset to hear such news. As the girl did not have a mobile phone, I could not confirm her location. In the afternoon, I got news that the girl jumped into the river. And my grandson is dead.
The housewife’s husband Rahim said that he had a quarrel with his wife. But it was beyond my imagination that he would do such a thing.
