Missing family members on streets of Sylhet

After the fall of the government, the missing family members got a chance to speak openly.
They met in a human chain on the streets of Sylhet on the occasion of the International Day of Missing Persons.
Political leaders also addressed the human chain program which lasted for about two hours.

Tahsin Sharmin Tamanna, sister of Iftekhar Ahmad Dinar, sister of the former central committee of the missing Chhatra Dal, presided over the human chain program organized in the premises of Sylhet Central Shaheed Minar on Friday afternoon.

Sylhet District Volunteers Party Convener Ojela BNP Former Organizing Secretary Abdul Ahad Khan Jamal and District Volunteers Party Member Secretary Ojela BNP Volunteer Affairs Secretary Shakeel Murshed spoke as the chief guest in the manbandh organized by BNP Chairperson’s Advisor and former Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury.
BNP National Executive Committee Deputy Organizing Secretary and Metropolitan BNP Acting President Miftah Siddiqui, BNP Executive Committee Member, District BNP Former President Abul Kaher Chowdhury Shamim, Sylhet District BNP President Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury, Metropolitan BNP Former Convenor Abdul Qayyum Jalalali Pongki spoke as special guests. , Metropolitan BNP General Secretary Imdad Hossain Chowdhury.

Shamim Ahmed, sister-in-law of missing Chhatra Dal leader Iftekhar Ahmad Dinar, Hasan Moinuddin Ahmad Moinul, brother of missing Chhatra Dal leader Hasan Moinuddin Ahmad and Ishan Ahmad, nephew of missing Chhatra Dal leader Iftekhar Ahmad Dinar, spoke on behalf of the missing family.

Adviser to BNP Chairperson Ariful Haque Chowdhury said in the chief guest’s speech, “We had hoped to get Ilyas Ali, Dinar, Juned and Ansar Ali back by now.” But we were disappointed. We hope that the government will take concrete steps regarding our missing relatives and reassure the nation. We demand the interim government to immediately clear the whereabouts of our missing leaders, bring them back to us.
Hasan Moinuddin Ahmed Moinul, brother of missing Chhatra Dal leader Juned Ahmad, said, “My brother Juned Ahmad and Dinar went missing from Uttara, Dhaka 12 years ago. Dictator Sheikh Hasina has fled, we have regained our freedom. But we cannot breathe a sigh of relief. Our only demand to the interim government is to return our missing relatives.

Ishan Ahmed, nephew of missing Chhatra Dal leader Iftekhar Ahmad Dinar, said, “My uncle was an influential student leader.” From the last 12 years we have been with our great uncle Iftekhar Ahmad Dinar, M. Ilyas Ali, Ansar Ali including our relatives can’t be traced. We want our relatives back.

Tahsin Sharmin Tamanna, sister of the missing Chhatra Dal leader Iftekhar Ahmed Dinar, said that today is the International Missing Day, but the whole year is missing day for our family. Every time I see a program on TV, I remember my brother. Why is my brother missing in a democratic country? When I see any procession, it seems that my brother is at the front of the procession. I have been on the road to get my brother back since 12 years.

President Advocate Muminul Islam Mumin, former convenor of Sylhet Metropolis Volunteers Team Abdul Waheed Sohail, Cultural Affairs Secretary of Sylhet District BNP, former President of District Jasas Jasim Uddin, Joint Convener of Sylhet Metropolis Volunteers Team Masum Razzak Rumel, BNP Leader Zakaria Rpin Faisal, Sylhet District Volunteers Team Joint convener Delwar Hossain Chowdhury, Jubo Dal leader Emdadul Haque Swapan, Qais Ahmad, former Chhatra Dal leader Shafi Ahmad Khan, Sylhet District Chhatra Dal organizing secretary Abdul Mutakabbir Chowdhury Saki, Joint Secretary Tajul Islam Saju, Biswanath Upazila Volunteers Dal member secretary Ashikur Rahman Rana, Biswanath Upazila Chhatra Dal convener Hussain Ahmed Prabel and others.

Maulana Nurul Haque recited from the Holy Quran at the beginning of the meeting.

The leaders of Sylhet district and metropolitan BNP and all organizations, professionals and missing family members were present in the human chain.
