Md Hassan: A systematic and peaceful environment has returned to the residential halls of Islamic University in the absence of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) university’s unit leaders and activists.
The university’s hall seats are now being allocated to students based on merit, financial needs, and distance to campus, replacing past irregularities.
Previously, there were numerous allegations against BCL leaders regarding seat trading, ragging, and guestroom culture. These practices reportedly made life difficult for resident students. With the cessation of these irregularities, students now enjoy a conducive environment for academic pursuits.
Freshers have expressed relief at the absence of ragging on campus, noting that they can now access campus facilities and halls without fear. Additionally, the quality of dining services has improved, with residents providing feedback on meals.
Raju Islam, a resident of Shahid Ziaur Rahman Hall, said, “Earlier, hall seats were allocated in exchange for money by BCL leaders. Those who refused to join processions or attend meetings faced ragging. Now, such practices have stopped, and a fair environment for studying has been restored.”
This change follows the student movement that led to the fall of the Awami League government, after which many BCL leaders and activists reportedly went into hiding.
