Loud explosions were heard near an army headquarters in the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don. The explosion was heard on Saturday (June 24) afternoon, according to the Russian media RT. A one-minute video clip aired on RT shows many people fleeing the scene. However, there was no immediate information about casualties in the incident, nor was it confirmed whether the headquarters building suffered any damage. Meanwhile, British news agency Reuters reported that several Russian military helicopters fired on a convoy of rebel Wagner troops on Saturday afternoon. The convoy, carrying soldiers and at least one tank in one truck, was heading towards Moscow, passing the city of Voronezh. Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a speech to the nation that those who are trying to divide Russia, who are on the path of treason, should be punished. This punishment is inevitable. In an audio message shortly after Putin’s comments, Wagner chief Evgeny Prigozhin said the president made a grave mistake when he spoke of treason. We are true patriots. We fought for the country. We do not want the country to be in corruption and fraud. Earlier in a video message, Prigozhin was heard saying that his troops would besiege the city and march on Moscow unless Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and General Valery Gerasimov came to meet them.
