He breathed his last on Monday (October 9) around 10 am while undergoing treatment at the National Heart Institute Hospital (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun). He quoted the victim’s family as saying that Mahmudur Rahman Belayet stoked at Dhaka’s house around 10 am on Monday. The immediate family members took him to the National Heart Institute Hospital where the attending doctor declared him brought dead. When the news of Mahmudur Rahman Belayet’s death spread, numerous leaders and workers and people of all classes and professions thronged his residence in Dhaka and his village home. During the liberation war, he was the chief of Noakhali District Mujib Army. Mahmudur Rahman Belayt, who served as the former VP of Chaumuhani SA College and vice president of the Central Chhatra League, also served as the president of Noakhali District Awami League. He is a Member of Parliament elected for the first time in 1973 and second time in 1986 from the former Noakhali-10 Begamganj Upazila parliamentary constituency (which is now Noakhali-3 Constituency).
