Dhaka real estate businessman and chairman of Intrec Properties M Fakhrul Islam has been arrested by Sonagazi Model Police Station on charges of providing funds in the case of attacks on innocent students during the anti-discrimination student movement in Feni.
He was arrested at 2 am on Sunday, April 20, from his home, Nasir Uddin Londoni, in Londonipara, Charchandia Union, Sonagazi. M Fakhrul is the son of the late Abdul Halim Member of Londonipara.
He was arrested on charges of being involved in the indiscriminate attacks and killings on students and the public during the anti-discrimination student movement, said Sonagazi Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Bayezid Akand.
It is learnt that his brother, Jubo League leader Mizanur Rahman, was arrested on Saturday night based on a secret tip-off. In the early hours of the morning after his confession, a joint team conducted a raid and recovered an LG and a cartridge from their house. OC Bayezid Akand M Fakhrul Islam confirmed the arrest and informed about the recovery of illegal weapons from his brother Mizan.
