The low pressure in the Bay of Bengal turned into a depression on Friday night. As a result, rain has already started in the southern parts of the country. In addition, the Meteorological Office has asked the seaports to display warning signal number one.
This information was given in a special weather bulletin on Saturday (21 December ).
It said that the low pressure located in the west-central Bay of Bengal and adjacent areas is moving northeastward and is located in the same area (13.8° north latitude and 84.1° east longitude).
At 6 am today, it was located 1,265 kilometers southwest of Chittagong Seaport, 1,220 kilometers southwest of Cox’s Bazar Seaport, 1,140 kilometers southwest of Mongla Seaport and 1,140 kilometers southwest of Payra Seaport. It may move further north-northeastwards.
The maximum sustained wind speed within 44 km of the depression is 40 kmph, increasing to 50 kmph in gusts or squally winds. The sea is rough in the area near the depression.
The seaports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been asked to display distant warning signal number one.
Fishing boats and trawlers in the north Bay of Bengal and deep sea have been asked to move carefully near the coast until further notice. They have also been asked not to venture into deep sea.
Meteorologist Shahinul Islam told Media that there is no danger of the depression developing into a deep depression. Due to this, the signal may increase to number three.
