A human chain was organized by the locals at 12 noon on Wednesday, June 26, demanding the removal of drug dealer Noorjahan Begum, adjacent to Pangashia Bazar, Ward No. 1 of Dakua Union, Galachipa Upazila of Patuakhali.
Led by the local tribal Md. Santu Mridha, about hundreds of men, women, old people, young women participated for hours and presented information about the various misdeeds of the accused Noorjahan Begum.
At this time, Shahed Ali Haji Bari Jame Masjid, President, Md. Jahangir Akon, General Secretary, Md. Zakir Akon, Moazzin Md. Mozammel Akon, and local people were present. They said that Noorjahan has been dealing in various types of drugs and prostitution in the area for a long time, as a result of which the local youth and environment are being destroyed and the devout Muslims are suffering from various ironies in the area. Even though the UP Chairman and Police Station Administration have been informed many times in this regard, no action has been taken till date, so the accused strongly demanded the administration to remove Noorjahan from the area.
When asked about this from the accused Noorjan Begum, she said, I have been living in the area for two years after buying the government land from a local person named Alamgir Mridha for 30 thousand rupees.
In this regard, Md. Zaheer Sardar, UP member of local 1st ward, said that the accused Noorjahan has been living on government land, and there are allegations of prostitution and drug dealing against him. This has been reported to the local UP Chairman. In order to protect the peace and order environment of the area, he will be informed in writing to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer with the help of the locals to move him to another place.
