Locals fed up with the stench of chicken droppings and the loud noise of the Victor Feed factory in Goalanda and Victor Village in Rajbari have sought the cooperation of the administration.

It has been learned that in 2003, a person named Ruhul Amin established two institutions named Victor Feed and Victor Breeders near the Zamindar Bridge area of Goalanda. The institution, established on about 36 bighas of land, rears chickens, produces eggs and makes poultry food. Since the inception of the institution, the locals have had complaints against the owner of this institution. The institution has been running by abusing its power despite various complaints including environmental pollution, land disputes with local residents and encroachment of a government canal next to the institution. The locals have filed a public petition and written complaint with the local administration in this regard. However, they have not received any redress.

Nur Ali Sheikh, a resident of Sarupar Char area, said that the canal covering a three-kilometer area from the Zamindar Bridge area to Sarupar Char was connected to two unions and connected to the main Padma. Here, cattle were slaughtered and fish were caught. Victor Breeders and Victor Feeds have occupied this canal and own it. Local resident Siddiq Molla said, I cannot live with my house due to the stench of chicken farms, it is very difficult to live with my family. We have complained and they are asking us to move from here to another place, where will we go with our family? They scare us at different times, we are seeking the cooperation of the administration.

Local resident Saleha said that it has become difficult for us to live due to the stench of chicken droppings and the loud noise of machines. Government officials come and go, they say that we do not smell, how do you smell? They live in AC offices, the smell does not go there. It has become very difficult for us to live.

Local resident Jhumur said that Victor Feed has now given rent to Pran Company. We cannot sleep properly at night due to the noise of the machines day and night. The machines run so loudly that if we want to call someone close to us during the day, we have to call very loudly, otherwise no one will listen. He also said that a resident named Alamin lives in a rented house with his wife and children in another place. Sometimes there is a loud noise in the factory, before this there was a power problem in the factory, our TV and refrigerator were damaged, they said they would fix it but later they did not cooperate.

Local resident Selina said that I cannot hear the call to prayer due to the loud noise of the factory machines. I ate Sehri and Iftar by looking at the clock during Ramadan. We are fed up with the stench of chicken droppings and the loud noise of the factory machines, twenty families are in great pain here and there is no one to look after us.

Victor Village, established by the same owner in the South Ujanchar area of Goalanda, also kept chickens. Chickens are kept in this Victor Village with a large area. Over 250 residents have filed a written complaint with the local administration, fed up with the stench of chicken droppings.
The locals claim that dead chickens are sometimes thrown into the field, causing a terrible stench. It is becoming difficult to live.

Local resident Rob Khan said that it is becoming difficult for us to live due to the stench of chickens. We have complained to the administration, but we have not received any remedy yet. Our children often fall ill. We are fed up with the smell of chickens in this Victor Village. We demand that the government take immediate action.
Local resident Polly said that it is impossible to stay at home due to the stench of chicken droppings. Also, many people come to this area with small children in the afternoon, but everyone leaves due to the stench. We want the government to take immediate action in the interest of the residents of Ekaka.

No one from the owner’s side was found at the Goalanda office of Victor Feed and Breeders in this regard. Denying all these allegations, Manager Obaidur Rahman told Manab Kanth, “We have not occupied any government canal next to Victor Feed, private land has been purchased. There are 24 government clearances including environmental clearance. Chicken and eggs are produced here. Victor Feed has been leased to Pran Company, there will be machine noise.

In this regard, Assistant Director of Rajbari Environment Department, Md. Harun-or-Rashid said, “Victor Feed has a clearance, but Victor Breeders and Victor Village do not have environmental clearances. We have spoken to the Goalanda Upazila administration about this, we will take action very soon.”

Goalanda Upazila Executive Officer Md. Nahidur Rahman said, “A complaint has been received about Victor Breeders and Victor Village, we have already contacted the Environment Department. We will inspect the company and legal action will be taken.”
