Language soldier and brave freedom fighter Mia Abdul Matin Bhuiyan (93), a resident of Tonki village of Monionda union of Akhaura upazila of Brahmanbaria, has passed away (Innalillahi…Rajiun). He died on Saturday morning while undergoing treatment at Comilla Medical College Hospital. Mia Mateen was also the leader of Awami League. At the time of his death, he left behind his wife, two sons and five daughters, relatives and many well-wishers. During his lifetime, he was honored as a Language Soldier several times. An organization called Akhaura Runners walked eight kilometers to his house to pay respects and listen to the language movement. It has been learned that Mia Abdul Matin was a 10th class student of Mogra High School in Akhaura when he was arrested by the police while agitating for language. After being arrested from his home on February 23, 1952, he served two months in jail.
