Once again, due to the effect of upstream flow and heavy rainfall, the water of Teesta river is rising and disappearing the agricultural land including houses.  Due to this, the water has started rising in the low areas along the river banks and in different areas of Char area of ​​the district.  Houses, paddy and jute fields and cropland are sinking.  People on the banks of the river are spending their days in fear.
According to the information of the Water Development Board, the water level of the Teesta river has increased by about 80 cm in the last 24 hours and is nearing the danger level.
Officials of the Water Development Board said that at 6 pm on Sunday, June 2, the water level of the Teesta River was 52 meters at Dalia Barrage Point, which was 15 cm below the danger level, but it was flowing below 5 cm at Kaunia Point.  Earlier, at 6 am on Saturday, water was flowing 32 cm below the danger mark at Dalia Point and 15 cm below the danger line at Kaunia Point.
Hundreds of families in Kalmati, Khuniagach of Sadar upazila, Mahishkhocha of Aditmari upazila, Govardhan, Sardarpara, Bhotmari of Kaliganj upazila, Kakina, Saniajan of Hatibandha upazila, Gaddimari, Patikapara, Singimari and Sindurna union areas have become waterlogged due to rising Teesta water.
Shunil Kumar, Executive Engineer of Water Development Board Lalmonirhat, citing the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre, said that according to the information of meteorological agencies, moderate to heavy rainfall and very heavy rainfall is expected in some places in the northern part of the country and adjacent upstream in the next 2 days.  As a result, the water level of Teesta, Dharla, Dudhkumar etc. rivers in the northern part of the country may increase rapidly especially during flat times and may exceed the danger level in some points of the Teesta river in a short period of time.
