Nasima Akter Sapna, who defrauded the poor women in the name of getting various government grants including training and employment, has been arrested by the police in Aditmari, Lalmonirhat.
Aditmari police station arrested him from his house in Aditmari Helipad area of Lalmonirhat on Wednesday (November 8) noon.
Earlier on Tuesday (November 7) at noon, the poor women surrounded the office of Aditmari Upazila Nirbahi Officer and gave a memorandum demanding the arrest of Sapna. Detained Nasima Akhter Sapna Aditmari daughter of Noor Islam of TNT Para Helipad area.
According to the complaint and victim sources, Nasima Akhter Sapna took money from hundreds of women in the name of giving them 10 thousand rupees per month in the name of giving them various trainings including sewing, promising to make rural poor unemployed women self-reliant. At the same time, he collected 4/5 thousand rupees by promising to get various benefits including various government allowances from women’s affairs, social services, cooperatives and youth development departments. Nasima Akhter Sapna pretended to be the sister of Aditmari Upazila Nirbahi Officer and cheated the rural women and grabbed crores of rupees.
At first, introducing herself as UNO’s sister, she rented a room in Upazila Muktijoddha Complex and started training using the banner of Aditamari Mahila Development Organization. Seeing that, the rural women accept it as truth and step into the trap of his deception. In this way, Nasima Akhter Sapna stole crores by spreading the net in the entire upazila.
Last 3/4 months ago when the locals informed UNO verbally about the matter, he stopped Swapna’s training from Muktijoddha complex. Later Swapna strategically shifted the training center to her home Aditmari Helipad area. In the meantime, the women who were trained in the first round did not get the honor even after the three months of training. As a result, Swapna had several fights with women over the honorarium.
Meanwhile, Swapna has its own baton force to discipline protesting women. This is not the end, he also grabbed 4/5 lakh rupees in the name of getting government jobs to many unemployed women. The victims also alleged that Swapna used to introduce herself as a close relative of Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed to job aspirants.
After not getting jobs, government grants or training allowances, the victims came to know about his fraud and filed written complaints with various departments.
On Tuesday (November 7) morning, hundreds of poor women of the victims formed a human chain at the gate of the police station on the Lalmonirhat-Burimari highway and demanded the arrest of the cheater Sapna. After an hour-long human chain, the women took out a protest march and handed over a memorandum to Aditmari UNO, demanding immediate arrest of the cheater Swapna.
When news of such allegations of poor women were published in various media of the country on Tuesday, the administration noticed and Aditmari Thana police arrested the cheater Swapna. Finally, police arrested Nasima Akhter Sapna from her home on Wednesday afternoon and questioned her.
In the initial interrogation, Swapna told the police that she had introduced herself as UNO’s sister and a relative of the Social Welfare Minister to extort money from poor women. Swapna’s neighbors claim that Swapna is a fraud. He gave the identity of a relative of a high-ranking official to take refuge in fraud. There are many fraud allegations against him. Deception is his profession. They demanded his punishment.
Aditmari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mozammel Haque said Nasima Akhter Sapna was arrested on the charge of cheating poor women. After the investigation, legal action will be taken.
In this regard, Aditmari Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) GR Sarwar said that Swapna has introduced herself as a sister to cheat. He was arrested on the complaint of poor women. After the investigation, legal action will be taken.
