Lalmonirhat secret meeting of Jamaat 6 leaders and activists arrested

Police arrested six Jamaat Shibir leaders and activists during a secret meeting at the closed Awami League leader’s cinema hall in Lalmonirhat.

Omar Faruk, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station, confirmed this information on Wednesday (August 23) afternoon.  Earlier, they were arrested from Alorupa cinema hall in Lalmonirhat town early the same day.

The arrested are Sohail Parvez (32) son of Enamul Haque of Boliram Sonatala area of ​​Barabari union of Sadar upazila, Milan Mia (58) son of Abu Siddique Karda of Bara Basuria area of ​​the same union, Rakib Hasan (17) son of Chakiat Ali of the same village, West of Saptibari union of Aditmari upazila.  Azim Mia (58) son of deceased Ali Mahmud of Chander Bazar area of ​​Douljo, Abu Taher (40) son of Abdul Hamid of Aditmari Uttarpara area of ​​the same upazila and Mominul Islam (38) son of Abdul Gafur of the same village.

Police and locals said that Adimari Upazila Awami League General Secretary Rafiqul Alam’s closed cinema is Alorupa.  After which the area is known as Alorupa Mor.

The cinema hall is currently closed.  A secret meeting of Jamaat Shibir leaders was going on in the balcony inside the walls of that cinema hall.

Sadar Thana Police conducted an operation there on Wednesday morning on such confidential information. On realizing the presence of the police, everyone ran away, but six people, including a youth, were arrested.  Later on questioning them, the police found out that they had held a secret meeting to destroy Alorupa cinema hall, telephone building.

In this incident, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Sadar Police Station, Moshiur Rahman named 14 people, including the six arrested, and filed a case of sabotage at Sadar Police Station against some other unknown persons.  Those arrested in this case were arrested and sent to court in the afternoon.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station Omar Farooq said that the detainees and fugitives were holding a secret meeting to overthrow the government and destroy government assets to damage lives and property.  A case was sent to the court in their name.  All the accused are leaders and workers of Jamaat Shibir.
