As per the court order, the assets of Lalmonirhat District Awami League Joint General Secretary Suman Khan were attached on January 23. A team of the Deputy Commissioner seized several buildings belonging to Suman Khan and hung government banners there.
It is learnt that there are multiple cases against Suman Khan, including embezzlement. The assets were attached as per the court order.
Earlier, after the Awami League government fell due to the mass uprising of the students on August 5, a police team arrested Suman Khan from the Teesta Toll Plaza area in various cases of embezzlement and money laundering.
In this regard, Lalmonirhat Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) G R Sarwar said, “As per the court order, we have seized the existing house, the house under construction and the buildings of a business establishment and have identified them as government-owned. However, the business establishment will be run by a committee directed by a district magistrate.”
However, no statement was received from Suman Khan’s family on this matter.
