A meeting was held in Lalmonirhat with stakeholders to discuss the implementation of the Teesta River Integrated Management and Restoration Project. The meeting was organized by the Lalmonirhat District Administration and Bangladesh Water Development Board at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room on Tuesday (March 11) morning.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner HM Rakib Haider and the main discussant was Mahbubar Rahman, Rangpur Divisional Chief Engineer of Bangladesh Water Development Board.  Also present at the meeting were Power China Bangladesh’s South Asia Representative Liu Cong, Deputy Country Manager Han Kun, Senior Project Specialist Maqbul Hussain, Deputy Director of Local Government Lalmonirhat Rajib Ahsan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mahbubur Rahman, Superintendent of Police Tariqul Islam, and former Upazila Chairman Mominul Haque, along with officials at various levels and local public representatives.
The problems and prospects of the Teesta River were highlighted through a power point presentation at the meeting. Under the proposed project, plans for river dredging, bank protection, dam construction, land reclamation, establishment of industrial parks, construction of reservoirs, and establishment of satellite cities were presented to the participants.
The local people expressed their opinions in the meeting and demanded the speedy implementation of the project. The participants in the meeting expressed their hope that the socio-economic development of the Teesta River and its surrounding villages will be ensured through this master plan.
