At least 10 people, including the bride, were injured in the clash between the two sides over the ban on playing loud music on the sound box at the wedding hall.
The incident took place on Friday (June 21) afternoon in Ramniganj area of Barakhata union of Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat. The injured are Abdur Rahman (45), wife Sahina Akhtar Saina (40), daughter-in-law Rumana Akhtar Lima (19), son Sakil (22), Syed’s wife Halima Begum and Amir Ali (55) of the same area, Ruhul. Amin (20), Saiful Islam (14) and Nazrul Islam.
Police and locals said that Rumana Akhter Lima’s daughter Abdur Rahman’s marriage ceremony was going on at her home in Ramniganjaj area. Loud music was being played on the sound box during the event. At the same time, Milad Mahfil was going on at Amir Ali’s house next door.
Loud music was disturbing the meeting. That is why it is asked to reduce the sound of the music played in the wedding house for a temporary period. But when the people of the marriage house increased the sound instead of reducing it, first the argument started, then it turned into a conflict between both parties. At least 10 people from both parties including the bride of the wedding ceremony were injured.
On receiving the information, the police went to the spot and controlled the situation, rescued the injured and admitted 10 people to the Hatibandha Upazila Health Complex.
Rumana Akhtar Lima, the bride in the hospital bed, said, “My brother was listening to music by playing the box at my wedding ceremony. At this time Abdur Rahman’s son came and beat his brother. One by one they came and attacked and vandalized the marriage house. They also spoiled the food for the guests. On the other hand, Amir Ali said that the loud music of the sound box disturbs the meeting. So when asked to turn down the noise at first, they turn it up and yell. With that, they attacked us and injured five people.
Hatibandha Upazila Health Complex Medical Officer in charge of the emergency department. Al-Aqsa said, 10 of the injured have been admitted to the hospital and are being treated. But everyone is safe. Hatibandha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Islam said that as soon as the information was received, officers were sent to control the situation and the injured were admitted to the hospital. No party has filed a written complaint so far. Complaints will be investigated and action will be taken.
