The 16-member full committee of the Laksam Journalists Union under Laksam Upazila of Comilla has been reconstituted.
On Saturday, March 22, the executive committee was formed through a completely democratic voting process in the presence of new and old members of the organization at a local restaurant. Md. Zafar Ahmed was elected as the president, Md. Abdur Rahim (re-elected) as the general secretary, and Selim Chowdhury Hira (re-elected) as the organizing secretary.
After voting for three positions at the beginning of the meeting, Md. Ahsan Ullah was elected as Vice President, Md. Amjad Hossain as Vice General Secretary, Md. Delwar Hossain as Publicity Secretary, Md. Ullah as Office Secretary, Md. Aminul Islam as Finance Secretary, and Saria Chowdhury as Women’s Secretary through a voice vote, subject to discussion among all present.
This is the third term committee of the Laksam Journalists Union, formed in 2017.
It is worth mentioning that on March 13, a 3-member convening committee was formed on the basis of the opinions of all those present at the third meeting called by the 1st executive member of the Laksam Journalists Union, Md. Zafar Ahmed. The committee was asked to complete all the tasks of forming a full committee within the next 15 days. In light of that, on March 26, 2025, the convener of the convening committee announced that journalists working in Laksam will be able to apply to the Laksam Journalists Union within the next five days and take the opportunity to become members of the organization. In addition, old members of the organization will also apply within the same period to confirm their membership. After the announcement, a total of 22 applications (new and old) have been submitted for membership, out of which 16 applications were finalized after scrutiny and the remaining six applications have been kept for further scrutiny. Later, a final decision will be taken regarding the six applications and the membership recruitment process will continue.
