A newly installed tubewell at Laksam in Comilla has been reported to be continuously leaking gas day and night. The incident took place at Abul Kalam’s house in the eastern neighborhood of Ghata in Ward No. 3 of Azgra Union of Upazila.

On Sunday (December 17) at 10 o’clock in the evening, a crowd of eager people went to the scene. Water and gas are gushing out from the newly installed tubewell nearby. When people set fire to the gas in the tubewell, Angargal started burning.

Abul Kalam, the owner of the house, said, I have given this place to my niece to stay. They are building houses here.

The masons installed the tube well from 8 am today. After finishing the work at 11 o’clock, it can be seen that the water is falling by itself. Gas is also coming out through the mouth of the tubewell.

At that time, the boys set fire to the gas with a wall lamp and it started burning.
Abdullah of that village said that the tubewell engineers saw the rising of gas and said that after 5/7 days the condition of the gas will be known.

Mohin Uddin of the same village said that after installing the tubewell, the crowd of eager people gathered as the water rose gradually.

As well as the water, the smell and sound of the gas can be heard and if one sets fire to it, the Angargal starts burning. We return from the bazaar at night and find the tubewell burning continuously. As it was night, I could not tell the matter to the administration or public representative.

Laksam Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Abdul Hai Siddiqui said, necessary measures will be taken after detailed inquiry in this regard.
