Today, Ambassador (Retd.) Supradeep Chakma, Advisor to the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat, was paid a courtesy call on Mr. Park Young-sik, the Korean Ambassador to Dhaka, in his office.
The meeting discussed the development of bilateral relations as well as the development and prospects of the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Advisor Supradeep Chakma said that the Korean policy should be followed to resolve the water problems and other environmental problems in the hilly areas of Bangladesh.
Advisor Ambassador (Retd.) Supradeep Chakma said, modernization methods will be introduced in the education system of the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Quality education will bring the people of the hilly region forward with the thinking and consciousness of the modern people of the world. He said, the nature and environment of the hilly region will be arranged in a ‘like where, like there’ way. He said, the mountain environment will be utilized beautifully to maintain natural balance. The forests, streams, and waterfalls of the mountains attract tourists. The government has strengthened security measures for tourists here. To protect the natural environment, we are going to increase the cultivation of bamboo bushes. The advisor said, bamboo is very effective in protecting the environment. He said, we want to solve the water problem by retaining the water of Kaptai Lake, rivers, canals, and streams in the right way. We have to be very aware of environmental protection.
To improve the lives and livelihoods of the people of the hilly region, the Bangladesh government is giving more importance to cotton cultivation, sugarcane cultivation, bamboo cultivation, mango, banana, pineapple cultivation, coffee and cashew nut production. He said that the process of exporting cashew nuts and coffee produced in the Chittagong Hill Tracts is underway.
At that time, Secretary (Routine Responsibilities) of the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Dr. Rashida Ferdous NDC, Additional Secretary Pradeep Kumar Mahatma NDC, Joint Secretary Konkan Chakma and Private Secretary (Deputy Secretary) to the Advisor Khandaker Mushfiqur Rahman were present.
