100 banned china duari (ring) nets worth 5 lakh taka were seized and destroyed by fire during the operation of Haor Mobile Court of Sadar Union of Nikoli Upazila of Kishoreganj.
Yesterday Tuesday (July 9) after the operation at noon, the seized nets were burnt and destroyed at the embankment near the upazila square at 3 pm. This mobile court is managed by mobile court judge Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Papia Akhter. Upazila senior fisheries officer agriculturist Md. Zahidul Islam was present at this time. Hundreds of china nets were seized in a raid conducted by a mobile court in Howar on Tuesday. The estimated market value of which is about 6 and a half lakh taka.
Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Papia Akhtar said that selling and using illegal and prohibited nets to protect native species of fish is punishable by law. To stop the use of these illegal nets, the campaign will continue through Hawre Mobile Code.
