The festival of sand extraction is going on in Dhanu River of Haor Upazila of Kishoreganj Itna without any regard for the rules. People on both banks of the river are disappearing under the river along with their crops. Sadar Union is under threat due to ongoing sand mining.
Itna upazila headquarters of Kishoreganj by forcing the local administration from Dhanu river of the union to manage or power, with the help of some unscrupulous money Lipsu representatives of the area, the sand collectors have formed a syndicate with the local sand extractors with the help of each other.
Some of the local residents of Itna Sadar, who did not wish to reveal their names due to fear, complained to this representative that for several years, the local influential government has been extracting sand in various ways day and night with the help of party people and a class of dishonest officials of the administration. Demanding to take necessary measures to stop sand mining, there is no remedy.
According to the district administration sources, the district has 1,470 square kilometers of area. Which is more than half of the total area of the district. It includes 15 small and big rivers including Dhanu, Kalni, Kushiara, Jhinuk, Ghorautra, Meghna.
Among them, sand is being illegally extracted from Dhanu River in Itna Sadar Union area of Itna Upazila with the help of dredger machines. Due to this, there has been damage to the riverside villages and croplands of Itna Upazila Sadar.
Agricultural land and residential areas are at risk of being submerged in the river. Many people have lost their homes due to river collapse and are living in floating condition in different cities of the country. He accepted various tortures if he blocked the illegal extraction of sand. The banks of the river are collapsing due to sand extraction from the river by dredger machines. Many houses have already been destroyed.
Yesterday, Saturday, Dhanu river was seen in Sarzmin, two dredger machines were installed in the river to extract sand illegally.
All these sands are being sold outside the upazila including different parts of the upazila through the bulged. Excavated sand is taken by the laborers to Bulgade for sale. At that time, some of the dredger workers could not give any answer when they asked whether they had permission to lift the sand. They said, we work on daily attendance, we cannot say these things. But sometimes someone takes money from the owner of the dredger by taking a small boat.
Md. Tariqul Alam, newly joined upazila assistant commissioner land and additional duty upazila executive officer in Itna upazila said, he has just joined. Moreover, he has not yet received any such complaint. However, illegal and illegal activities will not be exempted. Legal and necessary action will be taken against sand miners no matter how influential they are.
One observer complained,taking advantage of the difficulties of communication system in the remote areas of Howar, the sand miners are continuing to terrorize the sand mining game with the direct help of some dishonest local representatives of the government party, hiding with the administration.
