A case has been filed against 9 policemen including former officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station SM Kamruzzaman and the then police commissioner of KMP Shafiqur Rahman, 12 years after the controversial incident of hanging Chhatra Dal leader in Khulna Sadar police station.
On Sunday (September 15), Khulna Mahanagar Chhatra Dal’s Joint General Secretary SM Mahmudul Haque Tito filed the case as the plaintiff in Khulna Mahanagar Magistrate’s Court. He is the son of SM Emdadul Haque of Tutpara Main Road in the city. SM Mahfuzul Haque, the lawyer for the plaintiff in the case, confirmed the matter.

Other defendants in the case are former SI Md. Shah Alam, Md. Jelhaj Uddin, the then police source Kasem, Zahid, Tarak, Israfil, the then commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Shafiqur Rahman and the then DC (South).
The court took cognizance of the complaint and directed the KMP commissioner to submit a report to the court by October 17.
According to the statement of the case, on April 22, 2012, around 10:30 am to 11:00 am, on the orders of the then Police Commissioner Shafiqur Rahman and Deputy Police Commissioner, the accused including OCSM Kamruzzaman, armed with helmets, sticks and government weapons, forcibly detained Mahmudul Haque Tito and Ferdous Rahman Munna. by doing They were brought to the police station handcuffed and blindfolded.
Later, Mahmudul was hanged from a fan hook inside the police station while wearing handcuffs. The plaintiff became unconscious after being severely beaten by the police. Kamruzzaman then said to the policemen, ‘Return the knowledge of the school, we have more work to do.’ Then the accused SI Md. Zelhaj Uddin regained consciousness with tears in his eyes. He could not sit at all. The accused repeatedly hit him with sticks. At one point the then OC kicked the plaintiff in the stomach and threw him on the floor. Says – Shala gets in the car for Crossfire, I will know everything. When the plaintiff was lying on the floor, the accused again started beating him. His bones were broken and he lost consciousness due to injuries. They were later kept in jail on the orders of the Commissioner of Police and Deputy Commissioner. Not only that, the police filed a false case on April 22, 2012. The main accused is the plaintiff and Chhatra Dal leader Ferdous Rahman Munna.
It should be noted that Chhatra Dal leader SM Mahmudul Haque, who was arrested during the strike on April 22, 2012, was blindfolded and hung from a fan hook by OC Kamruzzaman. In this incident, OCSM Kamruzzaman of Khulna Sadar police station along with constable Abu Sufian, constable Mamun Akhtar and OC’s driver Sudhanshu were recalled.
