The court sentenced Roni Mahant (32) and Kamini Zahid (34) to death in the case of murder after raping a college student in Majhina village of Panchbibi upazila of Joypurhat. Along with that, the court ordered a fine of Tk 1 lakh each.
On Monday (October 14) at noon, Jaipurhat District and Sessions Judge and Women Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal Judge Abdul Moqtadir gave this verdict. At that time, the accused were present in the court.
The matter was confirmed to Jago News by Feroza Chowdhury PP, the state lawyer of the Joypurhat Women’s Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal.
The convicts are Roni Mahant (32) son of Shankar Mahant of Majhina village of Panchbibi upazila and Kamini Zahid (34) son of Khorshed Ali.
According to the case, on the night of May 6, 2022, a first-year honors student of Botany Department of Joypurhat Government College was raped and killed in Majhina village of Panchbibi Upazila of Joypurhat. The family members of the deceased were not at home at that time. In that incident, the brother of the deceased filed a case at Panchbibi police station. The police arrested the two on the night of May 7. On the night of May 8, the arrested persons gave a confessional statement in the Jaipurhat Chief Judicial Magistrate Court. Roni Mahant along with his colleague Zahid broke the wall of the student’s house around 1 pm on May 6 and entered. Then they took the opportunity to enter the house at around 2 am and forcefully took off the victim’s pajama and stripped her and held her face and hands. At first, Roni Mahant failed in the rape attempt. When the victim screamed, he stopped to protect himself and grabbed Ronnie’s chest. Then the accused got angry with Ayesha and strangled her. At one point, when the victim passed out on the bed, Kamini Zahid raped the dead body and ran away.
Two people arrested in connection with it have given chilling descriptions in court. Even after the death of the rape victim, the girl was not spared from the hands of the heretics. On May 8 Sunday night in the Joypurhat Chief Judicial Court, the accused Roni Mahant and Kamini Zahid gave a chilling account of the truth.

Filed the complaint in the court on November 30. After long testimony and hearing, the court judge gave the verdict on Monday afternoon.
