Journalists and civil society in greater Laksam. Laksam Upazila Press Club, Laksam Journalists Union and various journalist organizations and civil society have organized a human chain and protest rally on Thursday (April 24) at 10 am demanding the trial and arrest of Jafri.
It is learned that after the mysterious death of a student named Samia (13), a resident student of Nahbir (7th) class of Laksam Iqra Mahila Madrasa in Comilla, the news was published in all media outlets, including leading media outlets in the country.
The mother of the deceased Samia filed a complaint of unnatural death with Laksam police station, which is currently under investigation. Angered by this, Mainul Islam Jafri, son-in-law of Iqra Madrasa director Hafez Aziz, made several ugly and derogatory comments about journalists and civil society on social media Facebook. Jafri said in one of his comments, “The newborns who survived the dustbin of colleges and universities grow up to be journalists or criminals called Sushil.” When the comment came to the attention of journalists on Facebook, the entire community erupted in an instant.
Laksam Upazila Press Club, Laksam Journalists Union and various journalist organizations and civil society have organized a human chain and protest rally at 10 am on Thursday demanding the trial and arrest of Jafri.
Speaking to Laksam Press Club member secretary Faruk Al Sharah, he said – The ugly comments made by Iqra Madrasa director Hafez Aziz’s son-in-law Mainul Islam Jafri about journalists and civil society have shocked all journalists and civil society across the country. When journalists were working to create a healthy environment for reporting news in Bangladesh, he said that journalists and civil society across the country were outraged by Jafri’s comments. He demanded exemplary punishment for Jafri due to such unwanted ugly comments. Regarding the matter, Laksam Journalists Union organizing secretary Salim Chowdhury Hira said, Jafri’s comments were not only insulting journalists and civil society. He also insulted our sisters and daughters studying in college and university. He said, “Where will newborn babies come from in the dustbin of college and university?” This is definitely a complete male gesture. And the current chief advisor of the country, Dr. Yunus Saheb, is a civil servant. On the other hand, Jafri has also insulted Dr. Yunus Saheb. Therefore, I demand the strictest punishment for him.
