Gazi Gias Uddin Bashir, Jhalakathi: The court has sent former Chhatra League Jhalakathi district president Syed Hadisur Rahman Milon alias Syed Milon, who was sentenced to 14 years in a weapons case, to jail.

The judge ordered him to be sent to jail on Tuesday, April 15 afternoon. Jhalakathi Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Maheb Hossain confirmed the matter.

Earlier, Hadisur Rahman appeared before the Jhalakathi District and Sessions Judge Court today and applied for bail through his lawyer. The judge rejected the application.

According to case sources, in 2020, the police arrested Hadisur Rahman with a large quantity of weapons. A case was registered against him under the Arms Act in this incident. On March 18, Judge Md. After the testimony, Rahibul Islam sentenced him to 14 years in prison and a fine of Tk 10,000. Hadisur Rahman was absconding at the time of the verdict.

Syed Hadisur Rahman Milon alias Syed Milon is the son of Syed Delwar Hossain of Yusuf Ali Khan Road, East Chandkathi.

According to relevant sources, on January 15, 2020, at 1:30 am, police conducted a raid on the third floor of Syed Tower, owned by Hadisur Rahman, in the Doctor Patti area of ​​Jhalokati city, based on a secret tip-off. There, the police arrested Hadisur Rahman with a country-made firearm and bullets from the kitchen shelf. In this incident, on January 16, Jhalokati Sadar Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Delwar Hossain filed a case against Hadisur Rahman under the Arms Act.

After investigating the case, Jhalakathi Police Station OC Khalilur Rahman submitted the charge sheet to the court on February 4 of the same year. The court gave the verdict based on the testimony of 8 witnesses. Government counsel Maheb Hossain prosecuted the case for the state. Mallik Nasir Uddin Kabir prosecuted the case for the accused.

Jhalakathi Public Prosecutor (PP) Maheb Hossain said, “The court has ensured justice by convicting the accused based on specific evidence. Today, Hadisur Rahman appeared in court and sought bail. The judge did not grant the application and ordered him to be sent to jail.”

The accused’s lawyer Mallik Nasir Uddin Kabir said, “The verdict in the case has been given in the absence of the accused. We will appeal against the verdict in the High Court.
