The attack on the anti-discrimination students on the orders of the Jamaat panthi teacher took place in Tejgaon College located in the center of Dhaka. The attack took place in front of the office of the Divisional Commissioner of Dhaka yesterday afternoon when the students went to submit a memorandum containing their demands. Assistant professor of finance department and Jamaat leader AJM Kamal Uddin led the threats and attacks on students. Three-four injured persons after receiving first aid at Suhrawardy Hospital filed a complaint against the students at the Sher Bangla Nagar police station, including the one who ordered the attack.
It may be noted that in Tejgaon College, a deadlock has arisen in the changed context. The current principal has been unwelcome by anti-discrimination student activists for not coming to the college. The vice-principal was forced to resign on the instigation of some teachers. An acting principal and two acting vice-principals were elected through a compromise between the agitating students and ordinary teachers, but regular activities including class-exams could not be started. Anxiety is working among the teachers. As it is a private college, there is also concern about getting the current month’s salary. In this situation, there is anger among the students along with frustration. Talking to the analysts, it is said that this deadlock has arisen as a few teachers led by a Jamaat panthi teacher took a stand against the stand of most teachers and agitating students.
After the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government on August 5, the current principal did not come to the college. In the emerging situation, the student activists took the initiative to appoint a non-partisan principal with the aim of making the campus free from politics. According to him, he secretly collected the information of the teachers and nominated four people. On August 12, all the teachers elected Najibullah Khan, associate professor of marketing department, through transparent voting. He got 70 out of 127 votes. Later two more Acting Vice-Principals were appointed for the purpose of running the college through consensus in the presence of the teachers with the consent of the majority of the teachers. But some Jamaat teachers under the leadership of assistant professor of finance department who is associated with Jamaat’s active politics, AJM Kamal Uddin did not stop with creating an unstable environment in the college and also attacked the agitating students with outsiders. The students are continuously threatening the teachers, in view of which a complaint has been filed in Sher Bangla Nagar police station in the name of 9 people including Kamal Uddin on behalf of the students.
The agitating students have now formed a human chain in the college demanding the teacher’s resignation. Moreover, because Kamal Uddin is directly active in Jamaat politics, he is not getting acceptance from the students. Again his educational qualification is BCom (pass course) 3rd class and he was appointed in National University through special resolution not to be shown anywhere else as an example which is completely illegal. In other words, no one can understand how a teacher who is not eligible to be appointed as a lecturer according to the rules of the National University wants to pass B.Com (pass course) 3rd class and take charge of the college after doing Masters. His single arbitrariness and threats are disrupting the overall functioning of the college. There is fear and anxiety among all. In the changing situation where the campus would be safe for everyone, the entire college has created a scary atmosphere.
