IU Students Demand Punishment for Those Involved in Fascism

The students of Islamic University (IU) commit a protest procession, demanding high punishment and the resignation of those involved in alleged Awami League-linked fascism during the July student movement at around 12 PM in university’s Bot-tola on Wednesday. 

The procession moved through key campus roads and gathered in front of the administration building. Anti-Discrimination Student Movement IU units, co-coordinators said, those involved in suppressing the July student uprising movement, have to face maximum punishment, resign from their administrative positions. They also urged the administration and interim government to address cases pending with the International Crimes Tribunal.

Also they demanded that, university’s admission should be based on merit, with no students admitted through any quota. During the protest, students chanted slogans such as ‘No more compromises, time to take the final stand’ and ‘Beware, Chhatra League allies.’

Anti-Discrimination Student Movement IU units coordinator, SM Sweet, said, ‘Friends, we are aware that those who supported Awami League-linked fascism are still in the administration, ready to conspire. If the administration cannot ensure the maximum punishment for them, they should vacate their positions.’

‘All recruitment and admission will be based solely on merit, with no quota used, he added.
