International Indigenous People’s Day has been celebrated in Cox’s Bazar with various events. Yesterday, Wednesday (August 09) at 11 a.m. human chain, protest rally, rally and protest march were held in front of Cox’s Bazar Municipality. Mong a khen mongmong. Fazlul Quader Chowdhury, president of Bangladesh Environment Movement, Bapa Cox’s Bazar, spoke as the chief guest. Speakers on the tribal day said that 30 lakh tribal people of Bangladesh are now facing a difficult crisis and uncertainty. In the political environment of the country, the wind of the national parliament elections to be held by the end of this year is blowing. But in the past, all the promises made by the political parties in power before the election to protect the human rights and establish the rights of the tribal people have ended up as mere lip service. The Awami League government, which has been in power for the last 15 years, has not implemented any of the promises made for the tribal people in its election manifesto before the elections, let alone the constitutional recognition of the tribals of the country as ‘tribals’. The implementation of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Agreement signed 25 years ago to resolve the conflict in the Chittagong Hill Tracts has been put on hold. Most of the clauses, including the fundamentals of the agreement, have not been implemented. As a result, the life of the tribal people in the Chittagong Hill Tracts is constantly revolving with a more difficult and uncertain reality. On the other hand, the government has also forgotten the issues of forming a separate ministry and a separate land commission for the tribals of the plains. Due to this, various corporations, nameless development projects, powerful individuals, groups and circles, the tribals of the plains are constantly losing their habitat and being oppressed, oppressed and forced to migrate from marginal to marginal. In addition, the illegal project of the District Arts Academy on the Cox’s Bazar Cultural Center’s own land should be cancelled. It is our hope that the tribal youth will selflessly use their talent, knowledge and initiative against the century-long state exploitation, discrimination, deprivation and oppression of the tribal people of Bangladesh and commit themselves to strengthening the national unity and solidarity of the tribal people. Bangladesh Tribal Forum Cox’s Bazar President Thoi Aung presided over.
