SB-Sujon:

The current interim government should definitely be given time so that it can properly complete the electoral system and other reforms, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has commented.

He made these comments in response to questions from journalists at the inauguration ceremony of the Zia Memorial Football Tournament in Lalmonirhat on Tuesday afternoon.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul said, “The current government has already formed six committees for reforms. They have also started work. Among them are electoral system reforms, constitutional reforms and other issues. In that case, we should be a little tolerant and give them that time so that they can complete these reform issues. The people of Bangladesh lack tolerance. Everyone is thinking in the moment that everything will be fine in three months. It is not that simple, to bring it out of a catastrophe.’

Commenting a little differently on the character of the current government, Mirza Fakhrul said, ‘This government came after a revolution and the students, who were the main driving force of this revolution, are associated with this government. So its characteristics are not like other caretaker governments. If we want to analyze it, if we want to review it, we have to keep that aspect in mind.’

The BNP Secretary General said that the fascist Awami League has completely destroyed the political and economic structure of Bangladesh in the last 15 to 16 years. It has completely destroyed the desire for democracy by running a fascist regime. Many political parties, including the BNP, have fought and struggled for 15 long years to get rid of this fascism. About 700 BNP leaders and workers have disappeared, thousands have lost their lives, and false cases have been filed against about 6 million people. National leader Khaleda Zia has had to spend about six years in prison. The acting chairman of BNP has been exiled abroad on false cases.

Commenting on the expectations of the people from the current interim government, Mirza Fakhrul said, there is a desire to have a free and fair election, along with the garbage that has been created in the last 15 to 16 years, the administration, the Election Commission, the judiciary, the social sector – all these garbage, and to prepare a foundation for building a new Bangladesh through reforms. He said, ‘Two years ago, we had given 31 points to change this state structure and we have also been agitating and struggling for those 31 points. Therefore, this government should not be seen like other governments. They can at least create a free and fair election field. They can create a level playing field. They can create a foundation for realizing the hopes of the people.’

Praising Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the BNP Secretary General said, ‘I think this government has started very well. Because, a destroyed administration, especially the police administration, normalizing the law and order situation from there, and also moving forward for the elections. Those who have ruled fascistly, committed genocide, are being taken to jail, brought under the law, these are the things they are doing quickly.’

In response to a question regarding the oath-taking of the government’s three new advisors, Fakhrul said, ‘It should be ensured that no controversial person is given the responsibility of advisor in the current interim government. I would request everyone to resolve all issues through talks and discussions rather than taking them to the streets.’

On Tuesday at 3 pm, the Shaheed Zia Memorial Football Tournament-2024 was inaugurated by the district BNP at the Shaheed Abul Kashem College ground in Barabari, Sadar Upazila. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir spoke as the chief guest.
