2 lakh 31 thousand 40 pieces of eggs have been imported from India to prevent price increase in the country’s market. All in all, the import cost has fallen from seven to seven and a half rupees per egg.
Masudur Rahman, Revenue Officer of Checkpost Cargo Branch of Benapole Customs, confirmed the matter on Monday afternoon (September 9). He said that the eggs will be released as soon as possible after testing.
According to Benapole Customs sources, the invoice value of these imported eggs is 11 thousand 272 dollars. A dozen eggs cost $1.56. According to that, the price of each egg in Bangladeshi currency is about 5 taka. Besides, one taka 66 paisa will be added for 33 percent customs duty on the fixed price of every dozen eggs. All in all, the import price of each egg stands at seven to seven and a half rupees.
A company named Hydro Land Solutions of Dhaka has imported these eggs. These eggs have been exported by a company named Shree Lakshmi Enterprises in India. Ratul Enterprises, a local C&F agent, submitted the documents to the Benapole Customs House for clearance of the consignment of eggs on behalf of the importer.
Abdul Latif, owner of Benapole C&F agent Ratul Enterprises said, more eggs are imported to resolve the volatility of the egg market. In the meantime, egg import has started through Benapole port. I think, if eggs are imported like this, the people of Bangladesh will be able to buy eggs at a lower price.
The official of the Department of Livestock of Benapole regarding the examination of eggs. Vinay Krishna Mandal said, received the documents of the concerned importer. There is no egg testing equipment here. Clearance of eggs will be given from here based on Indian certificate. Any visible problems will be investigated.
Othello Chowdhury, Deputy Commissioner of Benapole Customs House, said that there is a 33 percent VAT tax on the import of eggs. Verification will be done after completion of all formalities. Then the acquittal will be given.
