Inauguration of distribution of free seeds, fertilizers and cash assistance to 8,000 farmers under Rabi program in Laksam

Free boro paddy (Ufsi seeds), boro paddy (hybrid seeds), winter vegetable seeds and hybrid vegetable seeds, chemical fertilizers among small and marginal farmers affected by heavy rains, floods and uphill landslides during Kharif-2 season in FY 2024-25 And in the auspicious opening ceremony of the distribution of cash assistance, the seat of the chief guest was decorated by the Joint Secretary of Fertilizer Management and Materials Wing of the Ministry of Agriculture. Md. Khorshed Alam. Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Kaushar Hamid and Assistant Commissioner (Land), Sifatun Nahar were present as special guests in the seed and chemical fertilizer distribution ceremony. Upazila Agriculture Officer Mr. Md. Al-Amin presided over the event.

On Saturday (November 23) 5 kg Ufsi seeds of Boro rice for 1 bigha land, 10 kg DAP and 10 kg MOP fertilizers were distributed to 3400 farmers, Boro rice (hybrid) seeds for 1 bigha land (2 kg), winter among 3200 farmers. Vegetable seeds and cash assistance to 700 farmers and winter (hybrid) vegetable seeds, chemical fertilizers and cash assistance to 700 farmers The distribution was inaugurated.

The chief guest of the program Md. Khorshed Alam assured the farmers that there is no shortage of fertilizers in the country and he encouraged everyone to buy fertilizers at the price set by the government. Upazila Nirbahi Officer said, we are working in a coordinated manner to resolve the waterlogging, so that agricultural production is not disrupted.

The upazila agriculture officer said that the use of chemical fertilizers should be reduced by one-third due to the fall of the land during the Amon season and the accumulation of sediment on the land during floods. Excessive use of fertilizers increases disease and insect attacks on crops.

Fauzia Akhtar, Assistant Additional Director, BADC (Fertiliser), Mr. Md. Shahadat Hossain, Additional Agricultural Extension Officer, Mr. Ali Ahmed, Deputy Assistant Plant Conservation Officer and other Deputy Agricultural Officers were also present on the occasion.
