Journalists have formed a human chain to demand the arrest of UP Chairman Monirul Haque Mithu, the main accused in the case filed in connection with the attack on Golzar Hossain, the district representative of Daily Manabzamin, while performing his professional duties in Ghazaria upazila elections of Munshiganj on May 8.
Around 12 noon on Saturday, more than half a hundred journalists working in various media were present in this hour-long human chain organized by Munshiganj Press Club on the road in front of the organization’s office.
The journalists in the human chain said, ‘When all the departments of the country are united to make the election system as transparent as possible in a democratic state, the journalists are also determined to fulfill their responsibilities. But despite all these arrangements, the purpose of taking over the polling station is Hossaindi UP Chairman Mithu, his brother government official Dr. Iqbal Hussain Swapan and his nephew Tanveer Haque Turin attacked police constable Sohail Rana on duty at Bhavanipur Government Primary School polling station. Mithu Gong blocked journalist Golzar Hossain and beat him up for capturing that scene. Although a case has been filed in this incident, the law and order forces could not arrest any accused even in the last 2 days. Journalists said, ‘Although so much happened in the presence of the police, their behavior was amazing. Journalists demanded departmental action against all the policemen who were on duty at the polling station during the incident.
While drawing the attention of the concerned department of the government, the journalists said, ‘How Mithur Bhai Gazipur regional spice research center’s chief scientific officer Iqbal Haque took a stand for any candidate in the Swapan election and attacked the police and journalists for the purpose of occupying the center by violating the code of conduct despite being a government official. We don’t understand. Incidentally, the victim journalist Golzar Hossain filed a case against 19 people with UP Chairman Monirul Haque Mithu as the main accused in the attack on a journalist at Bhavanipur Government Primary School polling station of Hossaindi Union on the day of polling in Ghazaria Upazila Parishad elections last May 8. On the same day, another case was filed at Ghazaria police station, making Mithu the main accused in the case of attack on police, vandalism of car and theft of ballot papers. Even after 2 days passed after filing a separate case, the police could not arrest anyone.
