Bangladesh Press Unity organized a protest rally and human chain to protest and demand justice for the attack on journalists including Janabani Editor Shafiq. On December 29, at 11 am, Bangladesh Press Unity convener Ferdous Rahman Rupak and member secretary Shahjalal Ujjal Bhuiyan moderated the rally in front of the National Press Club. Press Unity founder columnist Momin Mehedi, joint convener Humayun Mojib, Tofail Islam, Hafizur Rahman, Mansur Rahman Pasha, Zakia Hossain, Md. Nadim Ahmed, Fatema Nasrin and others spoke at the event. At the time, journalist leaders said that despite a case being filed after the attack on journalist Shafiq and 4 journalists, the administration is playing a silent role. Do they want to make Bangladesh a map unfit for journalists to live in? If not, then arrest those involved within the next 24 hours and bring them under exemplary punishment. Otherwise, Bangladesh Press Unity will sit on a hunger strike in front of the National Press Club. At the same time, 177 journalists have been dismissed in the last 3 months, and the leaders called on the government and the relevant media outlets to make arrangements for their full reinstatement.

It is worth noting that in 2009, with the aim of protecting the rights of journalists, the Online Press Unity was launched from the TSC of Dhaka University with the slogan ‘Press Unity’s commitment – there will be no more misinformation…’. Later, in 2020, its name was changed to Bangladesh Press Unity.
