An hour-long human chain was formed in Phulbari, Dinajpur, with the participation of people from 10 local villages demanding the protection of the graves of loved ones and the preservation of the traditional Kanahar graveyard.
(April 26) On Saturday at 10 am at the local Nimtala intersection, under the banner of the Phulbari Sammilit Nagorik Samaj, the joint member secretary of the Thana Bazar Samity, Sakhawat Hossain, convener of the Sammilit Nagorik Samaj, Md. Hamidul Haque, vice-president of the Municipal BNP, Montaj Ali Chowdhury, member of the Municipal Jubo Dal and former commissioner Abdul Jabbar Masud, member secretary of the Phulbari Sammilit Nagorik Samaj and president of the Phulbari Reporters Unity, Md. The speakers in the human chain said that the graves of our fathers, grandfathers and loved ones are being destroyed by the waves of the Kanahar Pond. Currently, there is a shortage of burial space in the cemetery. Therefore, they sought the intervention of the administration to protect the graves of loved ones in the Kanahar Cemetery by immediately building a guide wall in the Kanahar Pond. Thousands of people from the relevant areas participated in the human chain.
Note: The speakers in the human chain said that the 9-acre 40th century Kanahar Pond is the Jalmahal and the 2-acre 90th century Phulbari Central Cemetery is on the banks of that pond. The waves of the pond’s water have swallowed about 1 acre of the cemetery. This human chain was held to demand the rescue of that place and the protection and renovation of the cemetery.
