Harunur Rashid, Sherpur Correspondent: A human chain program and protest have been held in Sherpur to protest the recent murders, rapes, and torture of women across the country, including the rape victim of Magura’s child, and to demand maximum punishment for the culprits. This program was organized by ordinary students and people from all walks of life at the Chawkbazar Central Shaheed Minar in the city on Monday afternoon, March 10. At this time, the protesting student crowd stood for almost an hour with protest banners and festoons and performed a human chain program. In addition, the students and the crowd present raised various slogans demanding justice in the child rape incident in Magura. Later, leaders of various social and voluntary organizations and students of educational institutions present spoke demanding maximum punishment for the rapists. Mamunur Rahman, convener of the District Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Rabiul Islam Ratan, president of Ajker Tarunya Swechasebi Sangathan, senior president Reduan Rashed, students Maruf Hossain, Lipi Akhter, and others spoke at the time. The speakers at the human chain said that there is no need to waste much time to ensure the maximum punishment for rapists. If necessary, justice must be ensured through quick execution of verdicts through reforms in the country’s laws. Addressing the administration, the speakers also said that currently a class of miscreants is active in destabilizing the country through various indecent acts including murder, rape. Therefore, everyone must be responsible and sincere in protecting the country’s image and peace and order in society. Later, a protest procession took out and ended at the police station intersection after circumambulating the city.
