Houston plane pulls hundreds off runway after engine failure

International Desk: A plane pulled hundreds of people off the runway at Houston’s airport in the southern United States on Sunday after an engine failure, federal authorities and the airline said. United Airlines said no injuries were reported.

The airline said it evacuated people from the plane while it was still on the runway after learning of an engine problem before flight 1382.

The airline said in a statement that people were taken off the runway using slides and stairs and taken to the terminal by bus.

The incident occurred at George Bush International Airport at 8:35 a.m. local time on Sunday. The Federal Aviation Administration said it was investigating the incident.

United Airlines said there were 104 passengers and five crew members on board the Airbus A319. The plane was scheduled to depart for New York’s LaGuardia Airport.

Earlier, on Wednesday night, a US military Black Hawk helicopter collided with an American Airlines passenger plane near Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington, DC.

After the collision, the plane crashed into the Potomac River. The plane was carrying 60 passengers and 4 crew. A total of 55 bodies have been recovered since the accident.
