On Wednesday 7th August 2024, because of the ban on drug consumption, there was a terrorist attack on Pandit’s house in Nadona Union Panchbaria village No. 2 of Sonaimuri Upazila and there were reports of vandalism and looting.
According to the complaint and local sources, neighbors Siam (25) father-Noor Mohammad, Masud (30) father-Noor Amin, Liton (38) father-Mofazzal Hossain were sitting in the garden next to the residence of deceased Abul Kalam in Panch Bariya Pandit house of the upazila. The family members of late Abul Kalam were frequently subjected to drug abuse and torture in various ways. The notorious drug addicts terrorized and threatened victim Marjahan Akhtar and his family members in various ways. Such activities of drug addicts hindered the movement and peaceful living of the victim’s family members. As Arif, the only son of late Abul Kalam, was in exile and there was no other male member in their family, no one would have dared to protest for fear of the said scoundrel terrorists. Later, when Marjahan Akhtar Sohagi, the daughter of the deceased Abul Kalam, told the local dignitaries about their torture and torture, then the identified drug addicts of the area, Siam (25), Masud (30), Liton (38), led by Noor Mohammad (65), Noor Amin (60). Masum (20), Himel (25), Shahadat (23), Kiran (45) and 10-12 other terrorists attacked the residence of victim Marjahan Akhtar Sohagi in armed form and broke the boundary fence in front of the residence and entered the residence and assaulted, molested and looted gold ornaments. Along with looting money, mobile phones and household goods, they cut and destroyed various forest fruit trees near the house.
At this time, Roshan Akhtar (65), Jannatul Ferdaus Sathi (30), Shireen Sultana (62) were seriously injured in the terrorist attack. In this incident, Marjahan Akhtar Sohagi filed a case CR 320/24 in the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate, Noakhali as the plaintiff, and the court took note of the complaint and ordered OC Sonaimuri to submit a report for investigation. Bakhtiyar Uddin Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Sonaimuri police station said, “According to the order of the court, the complaint of the plaintiff has been received at the police station. Proper legal measures will be taken during the investigation.”
