Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Advisor Supradeep Chakma visited the area affected by the arson in Lama, Bandarban.
On Friday (December 27) morning, Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Advisor Supradeep Chakma went by road from Bandarban Sadar to Purba Betchhara Para of Sarai Union of Lama Upazila to visit the victims. Later, he inspected the houses and areas damaged by the fire.
During this time, Hill Advisor Sugradeep Chakma spoke to members of various families of the Tripura community in Betchhara Para.
After visiting the scene, the Hill Advisor said, no one who committed this incident will be spared. The government is trying to ensure everyone’s safety and all problems will be resolved through the law. At this time, the Hill Advisor also said, we have strongly protested this heinous incident. We will help the people who are suffering today due to the burning of their houses, not only that, but the Chief Advisor has also condemned this incident and has instructed me to provide whatever is needed for the victims. We are standing by the victims as much as we can in coordination with the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs and the local administration, and we will continue to do so in the future. The Advisor said, we will try to do something good for everyone in the area. The district administration will quickly build houses for the affected people. Where there are no educational institutions, new schools will be built. At this time, the Hill Advisor also said, the dispute over land will be resolved through the law. This government is very sincere in improving your quality of life. The soil of the hill region is very effective for cultivating cashew nuts and coffee. The Hill Adviser said that the Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board will provide all-round cooperation in this regard. At the same time, the Hill Adviser directed the local administration to provide drinking water facilities and distribute warm clothes and blankets to the cold-stricken people in this remote area based on local demand. The Adviser said that all government facilities and necessary allocations will be ensured among the affected people very soon.
Advisor Sugradeep Chakma later distributed blankets and corrugated iron sheets to the affected families. Earlier, Advisor Sugradeep Chakma inaugurated a 30-meter-long bridge and connecting road at Keyaju Tripura Para in Lama Upazila of Bandarban district.
Bandarban Hill District Council Chairman Professor Thanjama Lusai, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Konkan Chakma, Bandarban Deputy Commissioner Shah Mozahid Uddin, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Shahidullah Kawsar, Advisor’s Private Secretary (Deputy Secretary) Khandaker Mushfiqur Rahman and senior officials of various government departments were present at the event.
Meanwhile, four suspects involved in the crime have been arrested and sent to jail after the fire incident. It is learnt that a drive is underway to arrest the other accused in the case.
It is worth noting that on Tuesday, December 24, 17 mud houses in the remote hilly East Betchhara Para of Sarai Union in Lama Upazila were completely burnt down in a fire started by suspected former IGP Benazir Ahmed’s supporters.
