Md. Nur Islam Nayan, Dinajpur Bureau Chief : Sabuj Das of Bala Para village, Banatara area, Shankarpur union, Dinajpur Sadar upazila, created intense anger among the locals for making insults about Islam and the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) on Facebook.
Following the incident, an angry crowd blocked the Dinajpur-Phulbari highway in the Mohanpur area since Thursday morning (April 3) demanding the arrest of accused Sabuj Das. Hundreds of people from different places participated in the protest.
During the blockade, the angry crowd announced on the microphone that the blockade would continue until the accused Sabuj Das was arrested.
At that time, various administration officials tried to bring the situation under control. Dinajpur Kotwali Police Station OC Matiur Rahman arrived at the spot and urged the public to file complaints and assured of taking prompt action.
Finally, the protesters submitted a written complaint to the police in Mohanpur after being assured by the police. OC Matiur Rahman said, “We have received the complaint and will take steps to arrest the accused immediately.”
The angry crowd then lifted the blockade after about five and a half hours. After the blockade was lifted, traffic flow returned to normal and vehicles started moving on the highway.
