A case has been filed against five people for the gang rape of a young woman (19) from Laksam, Comilla. Police have arrested the accused in a day-long raid. The incident has created a sensation in the area.
According to police and local sources, a young woman from Sonapur area of ​​Noakhali district and her husband set out on March 13 to visit her in-laws in Laksam. In the early hours of March 14, they boarded a CNG vehicle to return home from the Laksam bypass intersection.
CNG driver Md. Masud expressed suspicion by asking if they were husband and wife. At one stage, they were taken to Gandamara area of ​​Laksam by a strategist. The accused searched their bags and systematically took them to Magbari area of ​​Lalmai upazila and abducted the young woman, leaving her husband behind.
Police said the victim was later taken to Paikpara in Laksam, where accused Md. Masud and Mohammad Ali raped her.
The victim was then taken to the rented house of accused Bilkis Akhter Kalpana in Talukdar Villa, Ward No. 8 of Laksham Municipality, where she was raped again.
The victim was rescued with the help of locals. Later, her mother filed a case with Laksham Police Station under the Prevention of Violence against Women and Children Act.
The arrested accused are Mohammad Ali (25), son of the late Khalilur Rahman of Monoharpur area of ​​Laksam upazila, Md. Masud (23), son of Md. Momin of Sreepur Madhyapara of the municipality, Monir Hossain Hridoy (23), son of Abu Taher of Batakhali area, Al Amin (23), son of the late Siddiqur Rahman of Uttar Binai area and Bilkis Akhter Kalpana (40), wife of the late Mostafiz Majumdar of Madhya Laksam area.
Laksam Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazneen Sultana said, “A prompt investigation was launched based on the complaint of the victim’s family. The police conducted a day-long raid and arrested five accused. They will be sent to court on Monday (March 17). We are taking a strict stand on the incident.”
The incident has created a huge stir in Laksam. Police say the case is being investigated with the utmost seriousness and necessary legal assistance will be ensured for the victim.
