Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan said that an area up to 1 km north and 1 km south of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport will be declared a silent zone. From October 1, 2024, measures will be taken to stop honking of vehicles in this area. He also said that the use of alternative materials will be encouraged to make the airport free of single-use plastic. This program will be strengthened as per the directives of the Cabinet Division.
The environmental advisor made this comment in the president’s speech at a virtual meeting on Tuesday. The meeting was organized to stop the use of single use plastic and horn in the airport area.
The environment advisor said that the horn bandh campaign will be carried out in areas adjacent to the airport and in electronic and print media. On September 17, the Civil Aviation Authority will hold a meeting with the concerned departments and agencies to finalize the plan. From October 1, the mobile court will be run by the Department of Environment, BRTA, Civil Aviation and Traffic Police.
