Sripur was the settlement of seven zamindars and the first municipality of Bangladesh during the then British rule. Captain Shahjahan Master was born in this village on February 6, 1937 in the house of Munshi Khizir Mistry of the famous Mistry family of the village of Town Sreepur. He founded Sector 9 of Bangladesh’s Liberation War. Captain Shahjahan Master was the only one among the thirteen brothers and sisters to survive. His father was a man of very simple nature. He gained special fame in the area as a pious person. Shahjahan started his primary education at Townshreepur Primary School run by Master Hindu Zamindar. Later, after completing his primary education, he was admitted to Saratchandra High School, Townshreepur. When he was a ninth grade student, the language movement started in Dhaka University to protect the mother tongue. At that time, he held a protest march and protest meeting with 40 students in his school respecting the language. After giving a fiery speech there, he caught everyone’s attention. He passed secondary school in 1954 from that school. After that, Shahjahan Master got admission in ICOM class in Satkhira subdivision only college. He passed I.Com in 1956. Later in 1958 he passed B.Com from Kushtia Degree College. In the same year, Satkhira joined the Padmashakhra school as head teacher. Later, in 1959, he joined the same post at Vetkhali High School of Shyamnagar Police Station. Simultaneously, in 1962, he passed BE from Rajshahi Teachers Training College and completed his education. Later took charge of Townshreepur and Sakhipur High School. Padmashakhra School as the head teacher during the tenure of Haroddah resident Md. Azizur Rahman’s daughter Rabeya married Khatun. In 1965, he joined the Mujahid Bahini led by the Pakistani military out of love for the country during the Pakistan-India war. As a result of his skills, the government of Pakistan assigned him the responsibility of Satkhira Mahakuma Mujahid Bahini. Later he was awarded the title of Captain by the Government of Pakistan. This is why he is known as Captain Shahjahan Master. On March 7, 1971, responding to the call of Bangabandhu, he involved himself in the defense of the country. He formed the Mukti Bahini in his area with the local youth. Jai ordered to lower the Pakistani flag at Debhata police station and hoist the Bengali flag. 6 Pakistanis of BOP captured the EPRs and took China rifles from them. During the war, he set up the training camp of Mukti Bahini in Taushripur High School of Sector 9. Later, Captain Shah Jahan established the first camp of Mukti Bahini at Master Bharat’s Taki. Which eventually got the status of sector number nine. For this reason, he is called one of the founders of sector nine. Besides, he served as the sub-sector commander of sector number nine during the entire liberation war. In the next nine long months, after the war, he returned to his home area of ​​independent Bengal and joined teaching again. Besides, he was elected as the first upazila chairman of Bangladesh in 1985 during the regime of the then President Hossain Mohammad Ershad. In 1990, he donated his precious body parts to Eye Bank through two eye registries. On July 21, 1993, while taking classes at Sakhipur High School, he suddenly fell ill. He was immediately admitted to Sakhipur Health Complex. Later he breathed his last at 12.30 pm. The next day, on July 24, he was buried with state honors at Townshreepur High School premises at 5 pm. In memory of this great person, various events are organized every year including memorial meeting, prayer ceremony. Captain Shahjahan Master Smriti Sangsad said that Dua and Milad Mahfil will be held next Tuesday (July 23) in memory of Captain Shahjahan Master.
