He is a freedom fighter even without fighting! He has been enjoying allowances and all government benefits for a long time by pretending to be a freedom fighter by collecting the so-called certificate.
Local Abul Hashem Bhuiyan, father of the late Ali Ahmed Bhuiyan, filed a complaint with the Ministry of Freedom Fighters, the District Administrator’s Noakhali office and the relevant departments. Based on the complaint and after talking to some freedom fighters in the area, it was learned that Nazir Ahmed, son of Abdul Majid of Ulupara village of Joyag UP No. 1 under Sonaimuri Upazila of Noakhali district, did not participate in the Liberation War. After independence, Nazir Ahmed collected a certificate and freedom fighter certificate stating that he was working as an employee of the Mujib Nagar government during the Liberation War due to his friendship with an influential leader of the Awami League at that time. During the Liberation War, Nazir Ahmed was actually working as an assistant teacher at the local Ulupara Primary School and later at the Panchgaon Girls’ School in the neighboring Chatkhil Upazila.
Later, Nazir Ahmed joined the Bangladesh Ansar Bahini in 1976. An order was issued to the Upazila Executive Officer Sonaimuri by the Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Freedom Fighters, Mohammad Abu Haris Mia, dated 18/09/2024, to investigate and submit a report on this matter, and no effective action has been taken in the investigation process in this regard.
Although a call was made to Nazir Ahmed’s mobile phone to inquire about his statement in this regard, his statement could not be obtained as he did not receive the call. When asked about Nazir Ahmed working as an assistant teacher at Panchgaon Girls’ School during the Liberation War, the headmaster of the school said, “As many of the school’s documents were destroyed during the Liberation War, no specific statement can be made about Nazir Ahmed working at Panchgaon Girls’ School according to the documents.”
Regarding the investigation, Sonaimuri Upazila Executive Officer Nasrin Akhter said that the matter is being investigated in depth. Details will be given after the investigation is completed.
