Fire at Shebachim Hospital in Barisal, investigation committee formed

A fire incident took place at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (Shebachim). It is reported that an official of the hospital was injured while extinguishing the fire.

The incident of fire occurred in the kidney dialysis department on the third floor of the hospital at around 6:30 pm on Tuesday, June 4. Two units of fire service rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.

The fire is believed to have started from an electrical short circuit. Meanwhile, immediately after the fire, panic spread among the patients.

Eyewitnesses said that around 6:30 in the evening, they suddenly saw a fire in the dialysis department. At that time there were 18 patients in that department but they managed to get out safely. No one was injured as a result. However, a staff (outsourcing) of the hospital was injured while putting out the fire under the hospital’s own management, said the director of the hospital, Dr. Saiful Islam.

He said that two units of the fire service came quickly and brought the fire under control. Patients and relatives there are safe. The fire is believed to have started from an electrical short circuit. He said that a three-member investigation committee has been formed in this incident.
