Zakir Hossain:
The authorities have suspended ferry services on the Daulatdia-Paturia route from midnight on Thursday (December 12) due to dense fog.
It is learned that fog began to fall on the river from Wednesday evening. As time passed, the intensity of the fog increased. Around midnight, the entire waterway was covered in a sheet of fog. Due to this, the marking lights of the waterway went out of sight. Due to this, the authorities stopped all types of vessels on the waterway to avoid accidents.
Meanwhile, several vehicles coming to cross the river are stuck in the ghat area. As a result, the passengers of the stuck vehicles and the concerned people have to face extreme hardship in the severe cold.
Salauddin, manager of the Daulatdia Ghat office of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), told Kalbela that ferry services have been temporarily suspended to avoid accidents as the direction lights of the ferry have become dim. However, the ferry service will be resumed once the fog density decreases.
