The price of golden and broiler chicken is increasing. Farmers of the district claim that the profit is less than the cost of production. But the picture on the ground is completely different. A powerful syndicate is working behind it. However, the Department of Animal Resources assured to take action against the syndicate.
Meanwhile, the local feed owners say about the increase in the price of food and medicine, some of the corporate companies of Dhaka involved in this industry, who supply raw materials and medicine from abroad, are big syndicates. More companies need to be associated with this industry, then those few companies will not be able to monopolize the business.
Rabiul Islam Babu, a farmer of Puranapail in Joypurhat Sadar Upazila, Abu Saeed, said that apart from lack of demand and price, they are also suffering losses due to lack of supervision in controlling the quality of food.
Prof. Muminur Rahman (Momin), dealer of Nirav Poultry Feed Chicks and Medicine Feed in Durgadah Bazar of Sadar Upazila, said that since the price of raw material and medicine for making chicken feed of Sonali and Boiler is very high, we have to buy it at a higher price and sell it to the marginal farmers at a higher price.
People associated with portree industry said that cold storage with chicken meat processing plant is needed here to save this financially viable industry. Apart from this, they feel that government steps are urgently needed for exports with government subsidies to sustain the industry.
The same is the demand of other farmers in the district. They say that broiler chickens were priced at 50-55 rupees earlier, now they have to be bought at 65-70 rupees. Again, the price of golden chicks was 12 to 16 taka pitch depending on the breed, now it has to be bought for 28 to 36 taka. Apart from this, the bag of food worth Tk 2,700 has now increased to Tk 3,500. According to them, in many ways this business has now gone into the hands of syndicates.
Ratan Kumar Roy, Agricultural Marketing and Market Research Officer, said: Boilers and golden chickens are being sold at higher prices in different markets of the district. Agricultural marketing. We are monitoring on the ground so that no trader can syndicate.
Saqib Ahmed, Medicine Supervisor said,According to the Medicines and Cosmetics Act, if any company or person or organization produces or sells medicines without a license, legal action will be taken against them by the Medicines Administration Joypurhat.
Md Mahir Uddin Livestock Officer said ,If a farmer complains about the quality of food, if someone charges more than the fixed price, we will see the relevant department is working and we will see it.
The demand of the traders of Joypurhat district is increasing only when the demand changes hands. They demand that a strong syndicate is working behind the scenes and action should be taken against these syndicates.
