The Joypurhat district branch of the Nationalist Farmers’ Party has held a protest rally and human chain in Joypurhat to protest the increase in potato storage fees in cold storages this season.
They will form a human chain and protest at the city’s Zero Point Central Mosque complex on Sunday at 11 am.
The event was chaired by District Krishak Dal convener Selim Reza Duke, and was addressed by Central BNP Co-Organizing Secretary Obaidur Rahman Chandan, District BNP convener Gulzar Hossain, Joint Convener Masud Rana Pradhan, District Krishak Dal member secretary Manjure Maula Palash, and leaders of BNP and Krishak Dal.
Farmers said that earlier they had to pay four taka for storing each kg of potatoes. This time it has been increased to eight taka. The price of potatoes is already low. If the rent increases again, they will face losses. The rent for storing potatoes should be reduced immediately.
At that time, speakers said that if the potato storage rent is not reduced, a strong movement will be launched.
After the human chain and protest program, the leaders submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
