Residents are fed up with the noise and dust from the factory machines constructed in Sakhipur residential area of Debhata. Day and night loud noises make sleep forbidden and houses are filled with dust and dirt from factories. Even after complaining several times, there is no solution. Residents have filed a written complaint with the Upazila Nirbahi Officer, local UP Chairman about the recent issue.

In a written complaint, locals said that Munsur Ali Biswas, son of deceased Nur Ali Biswas, a resident of North Sakhipur village of the upazila, had set up a wooden furniture making and wooden design factory in the residential area. It is also known that he bought the 11th century land in the residential area to build a residence. Instead of building a house there, he built a furniture manufacturing factory called Soukhin Furniture and Digital Naksha Ghar. In that factory, he gradually installed various electrical equipment used in making furniture. A heavy machine has been installed recently. Which continues from morning to midnight, sometimes all night. Apart from this, due to the colors used in furniture, various chemicals and wood powder, air pollution along with the loud noise of the machines are causing serious damage to the health of the local people.

As a result of intense moving noise, children’s learning, sleep, hearing power, mental and physical health are greatly deteriorating. At present some of the nearby families are suffering from breathing problems, headaches and ear diseases.

Locals called the Chairman of Sakhipur Union Parishad to come to the spot at around 12 midnight. He came to the spot late at night and found the machine running and ordered it to be stopped. The machine is stopped in the presence of the chairman. They started the machine again shortly after the chairman left the scene.

Even after filing a complaint with the Upazila Nirbahi Officer, he ordered the Assistant Commissioner (Land) to take urgent measures. Later, Union Home Secretary Prashant Kumar Sarkar issued a notice to both parties and conducted an on-site investigation on November 14. It is said that the investigating officer will submit the investigation report to the Upazila Nirbahi on Sunday, November 17.
